Movie propaganda
Disney's A Christmas carol, a multi-sensory thrill ride re-envisioned by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Robert Zemeckis, captures the fantastical essence of the classic Dickens tale in a ground-breaking, performance-capture 3D motion picture event.
Ebenezer Scrooge (Jim Carrey) begins the Christmas holiday with his usual miserly contempt, barking at his faithful clerk (Gary Oldman) and his cheery nephew (Colin Firth). But when the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come take him on an eye-opening journey revealing truths Old Scrooge is reluctant to face, he must open his heart to undo years of ill will before it's too late.

Disney's A Christmas carol, really was the multi-sensory thrill ride it promised to be. I am a huge fan of 3D animation films, leading me to conclude that ordinary films just are not as good any more. In all honesty I have not seen a 3D live-action film that even comes even close to the ingenious standards of Disney's A Christmas carol. Every detail was lifelike, so much so that in some scenes I had to remind myself that it was not in fact real life. I even admit that I, an adult, was scared by some of the ghosts in scenes where they pounded out at me from the screen! Eek!
Following the journey of Scrooge was both visually stimulating and heart-touching with its typical Disney happy ending. Robert Zemeckis did a spectacular job in remaking a contemporary version of Charles Dickens' original tale. The actor line-up was very impressive and, as always, a grand performance from Jim Carrey: he never ceases to amaze me with his versatility. The casting choice really embraced the roles, making the characters come to life even more.
The contemporary tale serves Dickens' account well, a plot perhaps too dark for the younger audience but none-the-less the 3D action will hold their attention. Overall I thought the film was a great success, it has really set the standard for future 3D movies. Zemeckis really centred the actions and events in the film to the 3D aspects, unlike many of his competitors. The visual sensorium was unbelievable. Robert Zemeckis and his team have done it again, revolutionising film as we know it. Bravo.
I give the film a well deserved 4 out of five. I love a Disney film with its classic love stories and generous amounts of humour, however considering the original Dickens tale Robert had to work from I think it serves very appropriate as Christmas is nearing and just as a general reminder to all to re-evaluate what is of true importance in one's life.
