is Wayne Wang's intricate reflection on Hong Kong as it moves towards one of modern political history's most momentous occurrences. at midnight on 30 June 1997, China resumed sovereignty over Hong Kong, transferring a free-wheeling capitalist territory to communist control, ending 156 years of British rule. this event has been awaited with trepidation as well as excitement since 1984 when Britain and China agreed on terms for the transfer of power over this territory, wrested from China in the 19th century wars over the opium trade.Security censorship classification
