Centurion is an epic, historical action adventure set in 117 AD. The Roman Empire stretches across Europe, from Egypt to Spain, and east as far as the Black Sea. But in northern Britain, the onslaught of Roman conquest has ground to a halt in the face of the guerrilla tactics of an elusive enemy: the savage tribesmen known as the Picts. Quintus (Michael Fassbender), a confident Roman soldier and sole survivor of a recent raid, marches north with General Virilus' (Dominic West) legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe the Picts from the face of the earth and destroy their leader Gorlacon (Ulrich Thomsen). But when the legion is ambushed and Virilus taken captive, Quintus faces a desperate struggle to keep his small platoon alive behind enemy lines.

Centurion is a lot of fun, especially if you like watching Time Team on ABC1. Of course, you didn't have to be a geek to like King Arthur, but it certainly adds a depth to the film on which mere action-aficionados will miss out. But don't worry, there's more than enough running, sneaking, hitting, stabbing, beheading, betraying and general mayhem to go around.
Centurion is Behind enemy lines for the second century. This time, it's personal.
The action, history, UK movie Centurion is directed by Neil Marshall and stars Michael Fassbender, Dominic West, Olga Kurylenko.
