Theatrical report

Cairo time is an old-fashioned romance with the racy overtone of forbidden love. A Christian and a Moslem. A married woman and the friend of her husband. An Asian man and a Caucasian woman. A guest and a host. A white-bread, Western world and the exotic Middle East. Cool ice and hot fire. In some respects this is a Golden Age of Hollywood movie that could've been played by Deborah Kerr and Omar Sharif, so it's always in danger of becoming clichéd. What stops it from becoming so is the delicious tension that builds and builds over the course of the film, and not once do you know how it's going to turn out.

Because the film progresses so slowly (one could say andante) and because every role is subtly delivered, only an adult audience will be able to enjoy it. This is a caress, not a shag. Patricia Clarkson and Alexander Siddig have a chemistry that oozes sensuality. It's like watching an ice cream melting in the sun. So sweet. Mmm...

The drama, romance movie Cairo time is directed by Ruba Nadda and stars Patricia Clarkson, Alexander Siddig, Elena Anaya.
