Pedro Almodóvar makes movies for grown-ups. (I was going to write "adult movies" but that would stuff up your googling in a big way.) Broken embraces (Los abrazos rotos) is about adults making extraordinary decisions in ordinary lives. Well, relatively ordinary. There aren't that many movie directors or millionaires amongst us.
This film is of the lamb roast variety: hot, hearty, filling and more than somewhat romanticised (a film like, say, Avatar, is more of the popcorn variety - quick, filling but ultimately unrewarding). The meat is nice and lean, the potatoes are soft in the middle but crunchy on the outside, the gravy is savourylicious. You'll enjoy it if you can sit through a two-hour film with subtitles.
