Discover a place that will never leave you, and a friendship that will change you forever.
Based on the popular Newberry Award-winning novel, Bridge to Terabithia is a fantasy/adventure story of friendship, family and the power of imagination from the producers of The chronicles of Narnia: The lion, the witch and the wardrobe. Jess Aarons (Josh Hutcherson) is an outsider at school and even in his own family. Jess has trained all summer to become the fastest kid in his middle school class but his goal is unexpectedly thwarted by the new girl in school, Leslie Burke (AnnaSophia Robb) who competes in the "boys only" race and wins.
Despite their awkward introduction, the two outsiders quickly become best friends. Leslie loves to tell stories of fantasy and magic. Jess loves to draw, but until he met Leslie it was something he kept to himself. Leslie opens a new world of imagination for Jess. Together they create the secret kingdom of Terabithia, a magical place only accessible by swinging on an old rope over a stream in the woods near their homes. There, the friends rule the kingdom, fight the Dark Master and his creatures and plot against the school bullies. Thanks to his friendship with Leslie, Jess is changed for the good.
Brimming with fantastical creatures, palaces and beautiful forests, the world is bought to life by the amazing Academy Award-winning visual effects wizards at Weta Digital.

As the first reel of Bridge to Terabithia began rolling I thought to myself, "Here comes another fantasy forest ripped out of yet another tween book." Boy, was I wrong. Bridge to Terabithia is about friendship and love and imagination and strength and wisdom and trust and being old enough to have adventures but young enough to believe it. Jess and Leslie's fantasy world doesn't fall out of a magic closet, it grows from their hearts and minds and from the world around them. It's the kind of thing that any child can create for themselves. They don't go on an adventure, they make one.
On top of that, Bridge to Terabithia is a surprisingly real-world movie. Poverty doesn't make you happy, sisters are a pain and adults don't make any sense at all. Good things happen to bad people, bad things happen to good people. You have to learn to live with the life you have because fairy godmothers don't come along and make it better. And then someone dies. There's no magic that can bring them back, there's no way to erase the guilt caused by your own selfishness. It's a really good example of death in the world of a child and it handles the aftermath extremely well.
Josh Hutcherson is great as a kid from the wrong side of the tracks (although, in this case it's an unsealed forestry road). He has the innocence of childhood but you can see the stirrings of the man he will become. Note for the future: he's got some Handsome Genes™ going on. AnnaSophia Robb reminds me of Keira Knightley in Pirates of the Caribbean: curse of the Black Pearl: fearless, independent and heroic.
Bridge to Terabithia is a film that anyone can watch and find themselves surprisingly touched and heart-warmed. It's like a lighter version of Pan's labyrinth (El labertino del fauno). See it.
The fantasy movie Bridge to Terabithia is directed by Gabor Csupo and stars Josh Hutcherson, AnnaSophia Robb, Erin Annis.
