Movie propaganda
A successful 80s boy band, BoyTown decide to reform in the hope that they can capture some of their former glory.
Spearheading the reunion is Benny G (Glenn Robbins) who, despite living a happy domestic life, secretly loves to reminisce about the glory days when he was part of a chart-topping boy band. Still contracted to their old record company, the boys convince fast-talking label boss Marty Boomstein (Lachy Hulme) into letting them release a comeback album. Despite the bands' best efforts, the new BoyTown material fails to impress the record buying public. It seems the BoyTown dream is over for good until Benny G has a brainwave - why isn't the band writing songs for women of their own age?
Casting aside their old songs about tears, eternity, angels and their 'baby', the boys begin to focus on singing about divorce, shopping and picking up the kids from school. Middle-aged women the world over respond to the magic of the re-invented BoyTown, album sales sky-rocket and the band embarks on a triumphant world tour.

Theatrical report
BoyTown is yet another in the long line of Martin/Molloy quirky comedies about Australian life. However, it's funnier than the one about the cops [See Bad eggs - Director of Intelligence] and has a better soundtrack than the one about the bowling [See Crackerjack - Director of Intelligence]. If you don't like boy bands, take that!
