Theatrical report
The first problem with The box is that James Marsden looks a lot like a mate of mine, James Robey, so every time he was on screen I kept thinking about him.
The second problem with The box is that we've already been asked "What would you do for a million dollars?" and the answer was, "Root Robert Redford."
The third problem with The box is that we don't get enough clues to solve the mystery before Richard Kelly reveals all. If you shoot a gun in the third reel then you have to show it in the first reel. (Also, if you show a gun in the first reel then you have to shoot it in the third.)
The fourth problem with The box is that having made the perfect movie in Donnie Darko, Richard can only go downhill.
Mind you, the reproduction of the 70s is almost perfect (there's a file with an acronym on it that misses out the full stop after the last letter - this is a grammatical error that only began in the 00s, after people started growing up with internet URLs). This is a fun film with lots of twists that you can see with your partner for a challenging but not distressing night at the movies.
The thriller movie The box is directed by Richard Kelly and stars Cameron Diaz, James Marsden, Frank Langella.
