Romance isn't dead... it's just not very well.
The hypnotic beat of salsa provides the backdrop to this urban drama about three lonely Londoners contemplating life's greatest mystery - women. There is Fergus (David Morrissey), who is searching for the high school sweetheart he jilted years ago (Jane Horrocks). Eddie (Jimi Mistry), the pick-pocket who falls for Jocelyn (Catherine McCormack), the grave tender. And Frankie (Craig Ferguson), who is determined to find the love of his life while still living with his ex-wife. Jimmy (Adrian Lester) the streetwise cabbie guides them all on their tumultuous search for love.
Also starring Ian Hart, Olivia Williams and John Thomson. Written and directed by David Kane.

Theatrical report
One of the scariest sights in the world is watching an Englishman attempting to dance. Rhythm and red hot passion are concepts that aren't associated with the English culture for a very good reason. Be very afraid.Nevertheless, Born romantic is not a horror film but a romance. A bunch of 20- to 30-somethings running around being very lonely and generally full of Millennial Angst. Oh. Maybe it is a horror film. If you've ever been young and single in a big city you'll understand.
Anyhoo, on with the review. David Kane has tried very hard to make a trendy, urban film about trendy, urban Londoners. The interweaving stories make things look more exciting but they rely too heavily on coincidence (or perhaps he'd prefer to call it Serendipity). How many taxi drivers are there in London anyway? According to David there is one. Yep, count 'em: one. One taxi driver for 6 million people. That stretches anyone's credibility. Still, the stories are interesting enough if you're into watching other people's relationships, although once again, the fact that everyone ends up in a loving relationship is incredible.
Born romantic is the Englishman's revenge on Australia for inflicting Neighbours on them. Take that into account when you're reading the slick in the video shop.
