Movie propaganda
The Blind Side depicts the story of Michael Oher, a homeless African-American youngster from a broken home, taken in by the Touhys, a well-to-do white family who help him fulfil his potential. At the same time, Oher's presence in the Touhys' lives leads them to some insightful self-discoveries of their own. Living in his new environment, the teen faces a completely different set of challenges to overcome. As a football player and student, Oher works hard and, with the help of his coaches and adopted family, becomes an All-American offensive left tackle.

Theatrical report
America is very well known for telling the risen-up or hero story; they live for tales like these and if it has a dog in it, all the better. It glorifies their struggle to rise up from oppression, blah, blah, blah... I do not suggest that Oher is any less of a person; nor do I suggest that his career has blown the entertainment industry out of proportion like some of his peers (Dan Marino, Michael Jordan, Wayne Griffy Jr) all I'm saying is that this is another risen-to-become-something-better movie. And, as the story suggests he had a golden opportunity and lots of help along the way. There's a point where the NCAA accuses him & his adopted family of corruption and Kathy Bates displayed this characteristic the best. There's no hard proof, but that amount of money coupled with the general fear white people have of ANY non-white male and hell, let's throw in the movie rights for good measure, all add up to: this story should have been sold to Hallmark... and I suspect it was at first until someone with influence had connections and signed Sandra Bullock onto the project.
Meh.
