Movie propaganda

In the era of cool, he was the soundtrack.

Despite being told that he would not live past 15 years of age due to a heart condition, Bobby Darin (Kevin Spacey) set out to leave his mark on show business, vowing to be a legend by 25. For Darin, performing literally was his life. It kept his heart beating. He came alive on-stage, even when he was near collapse off-stage. In Beyond the sea, Bobby tells us his own story, and it's his last great performance. Playing himself on a dreamlike movie set of his own life, he guides us through his past like a medley of his greatest hits.

Bobby Darin's tale is a true rags-to-riches story about a poor kid from the Bronx who makes it big in showbiz, married movie star Sandra Dee (Kate Bosworth) and became a pop culture icon. By his death at the age of 37, Darin had sold tens of millions of records, from early rock hits Splish splash and Dream lover to swinging classics such as Mack the Knife and Beyond the sea to folk songs like If I were a carpenter.
