Fantasy and reality collide when hotel handyman Skeeter Bronson (Adam Sandler) reluctantly agrees to look after his niece and nephew in order to help his sister out. To keep them quiet he resorts to storytelling... and in doing so he unwittingly opens the door to their vivid imaginations. Each of the stories takes place in a new fantasy world taking us to the farthest depths of outer space, the rough tumble Wild West, the epic grandeur of ancient Greece and the rich and magical world of medieval Europe. Ultimately, the kids have the last laugh as the events in their make believe bedtime stories magically come true in their uncle's real life with hilarious consequences.

Did Disney intentionally join forces with Happy Madison? To what end would they have was it to raise HM or to expand Disney's "touchy-feely" attitude to US-style slapstick humour? Whatever the reason when you take a little from column A and a little from column B you get this: Bedtime stories.

I was half expecting Mr Sandler to lose his temper in that way we've come to expect from his previous films and at many times I thought that this would be the case: not so! Perhaps during the filming the execs from Disney stepped in and asked him to tone it down. Whatever happened it's giving him a new side to express. I'm not suggesting that he's too one-sided because as I have quoted before his performance in Punch-drunk love was exemplary. He proved to me that he is capable as a performer and his talents extend far beyond making people laugh. That in upon itself is no small easy task (keep your chin up Messieurs Hurt and
Shatner, you're super!) I enjoy seeing a professional not only exploit their major talent but also explore their minor and possibly non-existent talents.

Courteney Cox was her usual supporting self but I don't know of any adult who'd willingly submit their children to the books she had them reading... uuggghhh...

Guy Pearce was a happy surprise as was Felicity (NEVER shall I use her real name). It's a step forward for Happy Madison, and a positive side-ways steps for Disney, all they need now is a dramatic film to complete the box step.
