Movie propaganda
Passion. Possession.
It's 1959, and bored, beautiful Stella (Natasha Richardson) succumbs at last to her bottled-up passions and begins a clandestine relationship with one of the patients at her husband's psychiatric hospital in northern England. Lust at first sight has rarely been so ill-advised (her handsome new lover did, after all, cut off his previous wife's head), and the resulting amour fou transforms all their lives - none for the better.
Co-starring Ian McKellen, and scripted by Closer playwright Patrick Marber (adapting the best-selling novel by Patrick McGrath), this stylish example of modern gothic is a sexy, seductive treat, and a clever investigation of power, transgression and control.
