American pimp
documents the phenomenon of the black urban pimp. From 70s blaxploitation icon to modern day hustler, a series of pimps are analyzed, interviewed and disected. Their histories, habits, and practices are all caught on camera providing rare access to this dangerous, unstable industry. Although charismatic, often sympathetic and with undeniable camera appeal, the pimps featured, known as Rosebud, Fillmore Slim and Bishop Don Magic Juan, prey on women whose physical and emotional histories, fractured family lives and economic circumstances have made them vulnerable. In exchange for what passes as guidance, education, financial assistance, physical love and even friendship, these men, to quote Rosebud, "Steal a bitch's mind."Persons of interest
