Trying to fit in. Born to stand out.
Daphne Reynolds (Amanda Bynes), a spirited young American girl, travels to London in search of her long-lost father (Colin Firth), an influential aristocratic politician. As Daphne attempts to prove that love can conquer all, her impulsive behaviour creates an uproar in high society, where her unique style threatens to undermine the relationship she has waited her whole life to experience.

Theatrical report
Serendipity meets The princess diaries.
There's very little that's original about What a girl wants and even less that's funny. Amanda Bynes is a bland American pudding while Colin Firth is so understated he might as well not be stating anything at all. Oliver James is stupendously cute but turns up in the most improbable of places (ie everywhere).
What a girl wants is a pastiche of clichés. What the girl wants is a decent script and a dose of realism.
