Set 400 years in the future, when disease has wiped out the majority of the Earth's population except for one walled, protected city- state, Bregna, ruled by a congress of scientists. Charlize Theron plays the title role of Aeon Flux, the top operative in the underground Monican rebellion, led by the Handler, played by Frances McDormand. When Aeon is sent on a mission to kill the government's leader (Martin Csokas), she uncovers a world of secrets, which makes her question everything she thought she knew.

Theatrical report

Even though there's a lot of running around, kicking and shooting, Aeon Flux lacks the omnipresent sense of style that would lock it into space and time. Without this grounding the film is just an excuse for running, kicking and shooting. Not that there's anything wrong with running, kicking and shooting, it's just that, like pornography, it gets bland.
