Movie propaganda

The who's who of hip, young actors star in 200 cigarettes, a comedy set in New York's East Village on New Year's Eve, 1981. It follows various young couples and friends whose lives will intersect at a party that night in a downtown loft.

Theatrical report

Where to start? Well, for those who want to know anything about the story, it's about... well... I think it's about a woman who has a New Year's Eve party and nobody shows up. Then, through the miracle of six degrees of separation, everyone arrives just after the hostess drinks herself into oblivion.

The film goes on through three disparate groups of people (including Courtney Love, managing to keep her clothes on) who try to sort out their lives to varying degrees of success.

I didn't like 200 cigarettes because they hid the plot; there were plenty of stories but no plot, at least not anywhere I could see. If you are a child of the 80s ("Tainted love, tainted love, don't touch me please, I cannot stand the way you tease!") then watch and recall, but The breakfast club it ain't. Watch for yourself and decide.
