A cool cast of young stars is just one of the things you'll love about this hilarious comedy hit! on the first day at this new school, Cameron (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) instantly falls for Bianca (Larisa Oleynik), the gorgeous girl of his dreams! The only problem is that Bianca is forbidden to date... until he ill-tempered, completely un-dateable older sister Kat (Julia Stiles) goes out, too! In an attempt to solve his problem, Cameron singles out the only guy who could possibly be a match for Kat: a mysterious bad-boy (Heath Ledger) with a nasty reputation of his own! also featuring a hip soundtrack - this witty comedy is a wildly entertaining look at exactly how far some guys will go to get a date!

Theatrical report
First off, there weren't 10 things to be hated in this film (slightly misleading title).
Second off, this is Shakespeare (The taming of the shrew, to be exact); a high school high update for the 90s, to be sure, but definitely stolen from wee Willie. You might want to compare it to Cruel intentions, another teen angst rendition of a classic story, but by no means to Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet.
10 things I hate about you is successful in making the transition to roller blades, laptops and mobile phones. If you'd never read anything by the bard you'd still recognise this as a better than normal teen high school flick: it's too big a story to fall foul of Molly Ringworm (little 80s in joke for the X-Generation).
Joseph and Heath (last seen in Australia as a blond, gay push-biker on TV's Sweat) are both good at being guy teenagers, but I feel that Heath had to act more than Joe. Heath has a very strong screen presence that makes him seem older than he is. Larisa and Julia are both stereotyped and beyond stereotype, which is a good thing. Fortunately, the writer hasn't made these teen characters behave like their progenitors but like relatively normal (tautology?) 90s teenagers.
This is a funny movie that'll keep the young people of today entertained for a few watches at least. enjoy.
